Five days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Bosnia with the family — long enough to see Sarajevo, Mostar, and the waterfalls without rushing, short enough to keep everyone happy. Here's a relaxed, prayer-friendly route we love, with halal food and easy travel built in. Treat it as a starting point — we'll tailor it to your family.
Day 1 — Arrive in Sarajevo
Land at Sarajevo airport and meet your private transfer — no wrangling luggage onto buses with tired children. Settle into your halal-friendly stay, then head into Baščaršija, the Ottoman old bazaar, for an easy first evening: ćevapi for dinner, Bosnian coffee, and a wander past the historic mosques as the lights come on.
Day 2 — Sarajevo old town & history
A full day in the capital at a gentle pace. Explore the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque and the bazaar's copper workshops, stand where East meets West on the Ottoman–Habsburg line, and learn the city's modern story. If it's a Friday, we'll plan around Jumu'ah prayer in the old town. Lunch is, of course, more delicious halal food.
Day 3 — Mostar, Blagaj & Počitelj
A day trip south into Herzegovina. See the iconic Stari Most bridge and Mostar's old bazaar, visit the Blagaj Tekija dervish house beside its turquoise spring, and stop at the stone village of Počitelj. It's a highlight for most families — our full Mostar day-trip guide has the details.
Day 4 — Kravice Waterfalls & nature
Slow the pace with a day in nature. The Kravice Waterfalls are a natural amphitheatre of cascades — perfect for paddling, photos, and a halal picnic. Older kids and teens love the option of a gentle boat trip or, in summer, rafting. Browse more activities and experiences to mix and match.
Day 5 — Travnik or Jajce, then home
On the way back, break the journey at Travnik (Ottoman heritage and a hillside fortress) or Jajce (a waterfall right in the middle of town). A final Bosnian coffee, then your private transfer to the airport, relaxed and on time.
How we keep it family-friendly
- Prayer built in: itineraries planned around salah, with mosques and quiet spaces along the way.
- Halal at every stop: hand-picked restaurants, so you never have to ask twice.
- Comfortable transport: private, air-conditioned vehicles sized for your group — a big deal with children.
- Flexible pace: nothing is rushed; we adjust to naps, energy levels, and interests.
